Hazard Levels

The following information explains the Hazard Levels of Treated Pine and what exposure, conditions the timber can be used in and hazards the timber can be exposed to after treatment.

Hazard Level H1

Exposure - Inside, above-ground
Conditions - Completely protected from elements and well-ventilated
Hazards - Insects other than termites (ie. lyctid or anobiid)

Hazard Level H2

Exposure - Inside, above-ground
Conditions - Completely protected from elements and well-ventilated
Hazards - Borers including termites

Hazard Level H3

Exposure - Outside, above-ground
Conditions - Subject to periodic moderate wetting and leaching
Hazards - Moderate decay, borers and termites

Hazard Level H4

Exposure - Outside, in-ground
Conditions - Subject to severe wetting and leaching
Hazards - Severe decay, borers and termites

Hazard Level H5

Exposure - Outside, in-ground, contact with or in fresh water
Conditions - Subject to extreme wetting and leaching, or where critical use provides higher degree of protection
Hazards - Very severe decay, borers and termites

Hazard Level H6

Exposure - Marine water
Conditions - Subject to prolonged immersion in sea water
Hazards - Marine wood borers and decay
